Our First Charleston Adventure: Pounce Cat Cafe
You may have noticed our absence from blogging and social media last week. That’s because Bobby, Kylo Ren, and I were vacationing in Charleston, South Carolina! I think we may have found our new favorite vacation spot. Charleston is truly a beautiful city. It is also extremely pet-friendly. There is SO much to do in Charleston for both humans and pets. Kylo Ren even got to enjoy some super fun adventures while we were there. He had to sit out on our first adventure though…
Pounce!
On our first day, Bobby and I had the privilege of visiting Charleston’s Pounce Cat Cafe! I’ve been hearing so much about cat cafes and have been wanting to visit one for a while. My expectations were high, but Pounce lived up to and even exceeded them! It was definitely a highlight of our trip.
How It Works
Pounce Cat Cafe opened back in December of 2016. They have partnered with the Charleston Animal Society, so all of the cats in the cafe are adoptable! The way it operates is you pay $15 to enjoy an hour of hangout time with the kitties. A drink is also included – either a glass of wine, a local beer, or bottomless coffee or tea. I personally enjoyed sipping on a Meowmosa as I mingled with the adorable kitties. 🙂
While I was there, I got the low-down from one of the employees. I was pleased to learn that since they opened their doors just over 4 months ago, they have adopted out 185 cats! The average time their cats spend in the cafe is just 7-10 days. WOW! I was really impressed with these numbers.
The Purrsonnel
In the hour I got to spend in the cafe hanging out with the 15 or so cats that were currently there, I took a particular fondness to a certain couple of kitties. One was Bernice. Bernice is a tuxie kitty who has crowned herself the Queen of the Castle. She is 6 years old and weighs in at 19 pounds! She rules the roost, for sure!
I also really enjoyed Georgia. Georgia is a rambunctious and playful kitty who would have gotten along well with Kylo and Caster, I’m sure 😀 She ran around the cafe, climbed up the side of the chairs, and enjoyed chasing some of the others. When she was brought in by Charleston Animal Society, she was infested with fleas and had a flea allergy, so she had scratched most of her fur off. She has since been treated and is doing well, so her beautiful black fur is growing back in. It won’t be long before she has a full and luscious coat!
All of the cats there seemed to be happy and enjoying themselves. How could they not, with all of the cat shelves, beds, and toys that surrounded them! While I enjoyed interacting and playing with the kitties, I mostly enjoyed sitting back and watching them have fun. I also snuggled up with one who was napping. If I had more time to spend there, I could easily have settled in for a cat-nap myself.
Extras
Once our time was up, I made a pit-stop in the gift shop area. I couldn’t leave without a souvenir! They had a cute selection of t-shirts, scarves, mugs, photo frames, and other miscellaneous cat-themed items. I, however, settled upon an adorable tote bag, a pair of cat ears, and a couple of toys to take back to our room for Kylo Ren. (P.S. You can purchase from their gift shop online too! 🙂 )
For anyone living in or visiting Charleston, I think Pounce Cat Cafe is a can’t-miss stop! Not only do they have super cute kitties to play and snuggle with and even take home, they also have other fun events like Cat Yoga classes and even All Day Study Passes for students during exam week.
Now if only we would get a cat cafe in OUR city…
Stay tuned for more Charleston adventures! 😀

Sounds like a great trip! What a brilliant idea and way to get cats (and dogs too) adopted. There should be two in every city. People get to enjoy hanging out with animals, making donations and maybe falling in love with the pur-fict pet. You are so compassionate and truly gave this business the respect that it deserves.

We’ve only been to Charleston once…five years ago, but now I want to go back. Emily, I am rather surprised that you did not adopt Bernice. Great purchases. You are already for BlogPaws with your ears and tote. Looking forward to hearing more about the adventure. Astrid sends Sampy all her love and a bajillion kisses and wishes she could have been with him while you were away. What a fun trip! We have a cat cafe in our area but our mom has yet to visit it. She plans to soon.

Oh and the mom would love to visit Charleston too!

That is an impressive number of adoptions in such a short time. That looks like a nice cafe, much better than the one I went to in NYC. For a beverage, you had to go around the block to a separate building .

185 adoptions? WOW!

I visited Charleston long, long time ago. Don’t remember much about the city, but now I’d love to go back and visit cat cafe! Pounce Cat Cafe sounds like a great cafe and it’s wonderful they have found homes for so many kitties already! I look forward to reading about how Kylo Ren enjoyed Charleston 🙂

Now that sounds like the best of both worlds…a place to have a rest as it were and to enjoy all kinds of kitties. And take one home???! OMC! I would have to stay out of there just for that reason! But no, I would just have to be stern with myself…MOL!
