Happy Birthday, Kylo Ren!
Yesterday was a special day indeed! Not just because it was Valentine’s Day, but because it was also Kylo Ren’s First Birthday! Okay, so maybe I don’t know when Kylo’s actual birthday is, but February 14th, 2016 was the day that my husband surprised me with the best Valentine’s Day gift ever – a little baby Kylo! I had absolutely no idea that he was getting me a kitten. I had mentioned in passing to him that there was a little black kitten up for adoption with Circle of Friends Animal Society that was a little wild child and reminded me of our Caster. A couple weeks later, on Valentine’s Day, I returned home from visiting a friend of mine for the weekend and was greeted at the door by little Kylo! My jaw dropped to the floor and all I could say over and over was, “Is this real?!” Bobby assured me that it was, and Kylo Ren has been a part of our family ever since!
He is indeed a little wild child. He darts back and forth across the house constantly and loves to tackle, whap, and stalk the other kitties – a typical pesky little brother. Everyone loves him though, especially Caster (naturally – Kylo is a little Caster in personality, afterall). They are two peas in a pod!
Though he is wild and crazy, he also has a sweet and loving side. No one loves to cuddle more than Kylo (except maybe Sophie). As I mentioned in Monday’s post though, he doesn’t like to be petted. If you pet him while he’s cuddling with you, he will most likely get up and leave. If you pet him when he’s standing up somewhere, he will arch his back down and slink away, like your touch is just the worst feeling ever. It’s hilarious but also frustrating because he has the SOFTEST fur and all I want to do is rub my hands through it! Thankfully he lets me do that every now and then.
Another little tidbit of trivia about Kylo – he is the official Kitty Escort at mealtime. Our cats get fed 3 meals a day, and they each have their own “eating room” behind closed doors. Otherwise, they would all just try to steal each other’s food and it would be mass chaos. Delilah eats in the laundry room, Sampson in the guest bathroom, Sophie in the kitchen, Sassy in her room, Caster in our bedroom, and Kylo Ren in our bathroom. When it’s time to eat, Kylo herds everyone to their respective rooms before taking his place in his room. He wasn’t trained to do this, he just started doing it right from the beginning. I have no explanation for it, but it sure is adorable!
Kylo, you have been the perfect addition to our family. You bring so many laughs and so much love, and you fit in seamlessly. Not only have you been the best playmate and partner in crime for Caster, you have also been the perfect adventure companion for Sophie. You also give Sampson a run for his money when it comes to acrobatics, and you have brought out a more playful side in Delilah. Oh, and I can’t forget how sweet you are with Lucy, rubbing against her and head-butting her every day. You were the final puzzle piece to our family, like you were born for us. Now I can’t imagine us any other way. This last year with you has been wonderful, and we look forward to many more years of your adorable antics. We love you!!!
